Drama Program
The Faith Academy DRAMA DEPARTMENT offers several opportunities for students to demonstrate their acting talents each year. The Chapel Drama Team (grades 7-12) presents human videos, musical interpretations, dramatic monologues, and short skits for students during chapel sessions and for the general public throughout the year. Through these dramatic episodes, students are able to not only demonstrate their talents, but also to use their talents to positively influence the decisions made by their peers and others in their community. In addition to this chapel drama team, drama students perform at least three plays during the school year. The Drama Class presents a one-act play, the Jr. Drama Team (grades 7-9) presents a one-act play, and the Sr. High Drama Team (grades 10-12) performs a full-length play. Every other year, the Musical Drama Team performs a musical production. The Faith Academy Drama Department will have produced eighteen plays and two musicals by the end of the 2010-2011 school year. One of the most intense parts of the school year for the drama department is the preparation for the AISA Drama Competition. Faith Academy has participated in this competition for seven years. For the last seven years, sixteen students have been named to the All-State Drama Cast. Our students have placed in several different categories in this competition as well. They placed third in the solo division in 2007, second in the ensemble division in 2008, third in the duet division in 2010, second in the solo division in 2010, third in the musical ensemble division in 2011, and second in the ensemble division in 2011. We are working toward a first place plaque this year.
Each year, Faith Academy offers a drama class during the school day which can be taken as an art elective by students in grades 10-12. Drama I is designed to educate interested students on the different types of acting, the basics of theater history, and the logistics of play production. Drama II gives talented students an opportunity to further their knowledge in the field of acting by offering an in-depth look at the history and variety of drama and also by providing several opportunities for students to demonstrate their dramatic talents in a variety of styles and for diverse audiences. Students in both drama classes complete a written and a performance assessment for each chapter, and they plan and produce a one-act play of their choice for their peers. Students in drama classes also learn short religious skits and human videos to perform for children in lower levels at Faith Academy. This “Giving Back Project,” as it has been called, provides our high school students the opportunity to “give back” to younger students what they have learned about Christian morals, values, and attributes all while having fun and being good role models for them.
Community Service Project
2010-2011
On May 10, 2011 the Chapel Drama Team traveled to the Waterfront Rescue Mission on State St. in Mobile, AL for a special performance and face-to-face donation delivery. We brought 8 students, and they performed two short religious skits and a human video for the men at the mission on a Tuesday evening service. My pastor, Bro. John Canning, graciously agreed to allow us to use his time-slot to present our short performances.
Though there were only 8 students who went to the mission, there were several others who donated money or items to go towards this worthy cause. Overall, there were approx. 20 men’s belts, 2 large bags of men’s clothes, 5 bottles/boxes of laundry detergent, 2 bars of soap, miscellaneous toiletry items (lotion, toothpaste, mouthwash, toothbrush, shampoo, etc.), canned goods, and a check for $150 (raised/donated by our students) that was donated. Praise God! This was an amazing opportunity for our young people to really see "face-to-face" the great need there is in our community. There is nothing more eye-opening for a teenager than to look into the eyes of a person that he/she has helped directly. It is one thing to ask a child to give to a "worthy cause," and it is something else to show them the "worthy cause" to which they will be contributing. To God be the glory!

Fine Arts
Faith Academy offers basic and advanced art classes for high school students in the form of Art I and Portfolio Development. Portfolio Development is a course specially designed for students who are interested in pursuing a career in the field of art or design. In the kindergarten and elementary programs, art is taught in the classroom by the classroom teacher. Upper level art classes often partner with kindergarten and elementary classes to complete special projects. All students from K5-12th grade are able to participate in art competitions at the school, district, and state level. In the 2010-2011 school year, more than 300 pieces of artwork were entered by Faith Academy students at our school show. More than 100 pieces of artwork went on to compete against the artwork five other schools in our area at the AISA District II Art Competition. At the district show, Faith Academy had 48 winning pieces of artwork (more than any other school in our area), and 25 pieces qualified to move on to the next level of competition. At the AISA State Art Competition, we brought home 11 ribbons—with students placing in every level of competition from K5-12th grade. Our art program continues to grow and improve with each passing year, as our students continually develop their creativity and choose to continue their artistic journeys even after they leave our school.
